Father’s Message

message-fr-james-thottakathDevasahayam Pilla was beatified on 2 December 2012. Immediately we extended the Kurishadi of Our Lady of Grace Church (Anugraha Matha Church) Ayanimoodu, substation of Nemom parish  by installing the holy pictures of St. Francis Xavier and blessed Devasahayam Pilla. This parish has an obligation to venerate blessed Devasahayam Pilla and spread devotion to him. The reason is this Devasahayam Pilla is a proud child of Nemom Jesuit Mission which means after St. Francis Xavier at his Ernest and repeated request to send Missionaries to India the General of the New formed Jesuit order comprising initially only eight members. One by one Jesuits arrived in Madura and started the Madura Jesuit Mission. Eventually they came down to Travancore when the capital was Thiruvithamcode near Thakkala. They established a church at Vadakankulam were eventually Neelakandan Pilla was baptized by Fr.Buttari and received the name Devasahayam Pilla meaning “Lasar”. In 1701 the mission was started in Nemom in the present Thiruvananthapuram District.
